  Kyanite is associated to the zodiac signs of Aries, Taurus & Libra. Brittle in appearance and easy to damage kyanite is challenging to cut.
 
 


Kyanite

The name kyanite is derived from Greek word kyanos which means 'blue'. It is also called Disthene. Shades of blues & greens are prominent. Being a rare gem Kyanite is also brittle in appearance. Kyanite is used mainly for earrings, brooches & pendants. In chemical industries, it is used in manufacturing spark plugs & heat resistant ceramics. When heated, Kyanite expands permanently. This shiny, translucent gemstone is known for its colour zones & variation in hardness based on the cutting direction much like the characteristics present in diamonds. The cutter will take advantage of the best direction when cutting Kyanite.

Formed form Aluminum silicate, its hardness may vary from 4-7.5 in the same crystal depending upon axial direction. Clear, shiny blue, blue-green in appearance kyanite is associated with loyalty, serenity, calmness, innovation & dreams. Extreme variables in hardness makes it difficult to cut but easy to damage. Being a tranquilizer, kyanite facilitates mental clarity & calmness is especially effective on throat & third-eye chakras.

Green KyaniteGreen Kyanite:
Emerald Kyanite is known for its spendid colour. Beautiful in appearance, it resembles the Zambian Emerald and is probably the most popular variety.


Blue KyaniteBlue Kyanite:
The blue variety resembles the royal sapphire with its rich royal blue color. Top blue kyanite is undoubtly the richest & best in appearance & properties.

Kyanite is formed in metamorphic rocks under high pressure conditions and though it is characteristically blue, it may be green, yellow or white as well.
